Steiff Teddy Bear

The Steiff teddy bear is recognized as the leading teddy bear on the world market, a position enjoyed by the Company since the early 1900's. The Steiff name was originally brought to notice by Margarete Steiff in 1880 when as a skilled seamsress she made her first soft toy, being a little elephant that was to be used as a pincushion.

In 1897 she was joined in business by her nephew Richard Steiff a talented artist and it was Richard who is credited in making the first fully jointed teddy bear in 1902. The Steiff teddy bear is readily recognized by its "button in the ear" Yellow Tag is for general production, White Tag is for "Limited Edition".

It is the desire of every Teddy Bear Collector to have at least one Steiff bear in their collection.
